Ann Marie good news
“But now, this is what the LORD says—he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: ‘Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” (Isaiah 43:1-2).
When God sent Moses to lead Israel out of Egypt Israel was not a nation. It was a large family. What God did in forming them into a national unit was so miraculous that Isaiah called it a creative act. Just the same kind of thing God did when He created the heavens and the earth. He gave Israel a specific mission. He wanted them to possess the Promised Land and establish a place for the birth of the Savior, Jesus.
There were obstacles, though, that stood in their way. The Red Sea and the Jordan stood between them and the promises of God. They couldn’t overcome those obstacles in their own strength. God intervened and parted the waters so they could “pass through.”
These two verses point out to each of us that the God who created us can enable us to reach our destinations. We don’t have to be afraid. When we come to impassable waters, God will part them so we can pass through. If we come to fire He will be with us in the same way He was with Daniel’s three friends.
When God redeems us He has a purpose for our lives. That is implied in the expression “I have summoned you by name.” Fear says, “I’m not certain that I’m going to make it.” God says, “I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” I don’t know about you, but that puts my mind at rest.
